  What step in the Community Building Process is your project: Developing the action and evaluation plan

 What is the overall goal of the Project: Address community poverty-related needs by strengthening the community and the development of community infrastructure through a community building process. The process will engage individual citizens, citizen groups, and agencies to address community needs and will enable the community to develop and implement a strategic plan resulting in sustainable activities to meet community needs.

Planned Period of Work

Goal (from VISTA Project Plan): Support the development of a Sustainable community building process that combines all aspects of health and economic development to improve quality of life in Eastern Montana.

Activity 1: Work on the development of Partnership for Promise as it relates to the Drug Free Communities Grant.

Step 1: Review grant and current coalition plan.

Step 2: Work with SKSC Coordinator to develop a sustainable plan for the Coalition newsletter.
Task 1: Identify another software program to create P4P newsletter
Task 2: Propose forming a P4P Newsletter Committee to work on P4P newsletter throughout the year to P4P Coalition and get a list of volunteers
Task 3: Teach newsletter software/format to workgroup committee
Task 4: Create a timeline for P4P newsletter for publication with committee
Task 5: Provide newsletter committee with database that receives newsletter
Task 6: Assist newsletter committee in publishing and distributing newsletter
Task 7: Create a manual on how to maintain P4P newsletter for sustainability

Step 3: Work with the SKSC Coordinator to complete grant requirements and evaluation process.
Task 1: Assist with evaluation of proposal projects
Task 2: Work on the expansion of proposal projects to a regional area
Task 3: Assist with the Media Campaigns surrounding the proposal projects

Task 6: Attend community events to support coalition members and assist where possible with supporting members fund-raising events
Task 7: Work on sustainability plan for Parade of Trees Auction for the Boys & Girls Club
Subtask 1: Form committee with project coordinator (Kristan DeCoudres) and attend committee meetings
Subtask 2:  Assist committee in fundraising and getting donations for Parade of Trees Auction
Subtask 3:  Assist committee in performing tasks at Parade of Trees Auction event
Subtask 4:  Compile a manual on how to organize and carry out the Parade of Trees Auction

 

Step 4: Look at the Social Index and tie it into an evaluation plan for the Partnership and RCHD.

Task 3: Identify how these factors tie in to evaluation of P4P and RCHD

Step 5: Attend all Partnership, Risky Business/DUI Task Force meetings as well as other organization meetings as they become relevant.

  • These meetings include, but are not limited to: Partnership for Promise general coalition meetings, Partnership for Promise Board Meetings, Risky Business/Tri County DUI Task Force meetings, Richland County Health Department staff meetings, and Montana Safe Kids, Safe Communities quarterly meetings (some of which are in Helena).

Activity 2: Work on a plan to provide a comprehensive approach to prevention that involves all partners. (external coordination)

Step 1: Review the history of the Partnership for Promise.
Task 1: Review P4P work plan, grant, and previous projects as well as red P4P binder

Task 3: Create a PowerPoint presentation about the history of P4P and show this PowerPoint to coalition members at P4P Coalition general meeting

Step 2: Participate in regional activities that engage other counties in the Community Building Institute.

Activity 3: Develop an internal process that will ensure that the RCHD strategic plan addresses prevention issues and how we interact with the Partnership for Promise and other agencies addressing prevention.

Step 1: Review RCHD strategic plan.
Task 1: Meet with Judy/Kate/Matt to review strategic plan
Task 2: Attend Judy’s training on Public Health and the 10 Essential Services

Step 3: Identify areas that overlap and could be addressed by RCHD and other agencies.

Step 5: Identify and develop a reporting system to track DUI arrests and convictions to be a part of the underage drinking report and Social Health Index.
Task 1: Identify key law enforcement agencies and court systems in Richland, Sheridan and McCone Counties that will be reporting this data.
Task 2: Meet with the clerks of the identified court systems and ask how they track how many DUI convictions have come through their courts and what law enforcement agency wrote the original citation
Subtask 1: If no tracking system is in place, ask what would be the easiest way to track this information and assist them in setting up a tracking system
Subtask 2: If a tracking system is in place, ask what works best and how they would suggest someone track the data
Task 3: Meet with identified law enforcement agency clerks and ask how they track the number of DUI citations were written in Richland, Sheridan and McCone Counties

Activity 4: Identify and develop a strategy to develop a SADD chapter in the area Middle Schools.

Step 1: Meet with SADD Coordinator to review what has been accomplished.

Step 2: Develop a plan to complete development in Sidney Middle School by December 31, 2007.
Task 1: Assess potential for development of SADD chapter in the middle school by identifying and questioning potential stakeholders
Task 2: Write a project proposal for SADD and present the proposal to stakeholders
Task 3: Identify one faculty advisor and two parents to facilitate meetings
Task 4: Recruit youth, plan meetings and assist advisors in organizing projects for youth
Task 5: Identify organizations in the community who benefit by participating in SADD
Task 6: Compile a sustainability folder for RCHD records and for the faculty/parent advisors to continue SADD year to year.
Task 7: Make sustainability folder available to other communities and counties on a request basis.
