The Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program targets all ages in efforts to discourage tobacco use in any form. The program encourages those who do not use tobacco products to remain tobacco free, and works to help those who already use such products to kick the habit. The tobacco use prevention program uses a variety of events to get its message across concerning the health risks associated with smoking and chewing tobacco. The program also utilizes teen leaders who visit 4th grade classes to teach youngsters the dangers of tobacco use and how to say ‘No’ to peer pressure that might tempt them to begin using tobacco products.
Annual tobacco prevention awareness events include Kick Butts Day, World No Tobacco Day, Red Ribbon Week, Spit Tobacco Summit, the Great American Smoke Out, and the Through with Chew Week.
