Harvest For Seniors
Program Overview
The economic "boom" in our area offers a lot of opportunities but also presents a number of challenges.  It seem that prices on everything from housing to groceries continues to rise.  For the many Seniors living on fixed incomes, finding ways to stretch their current budget to meet rising expenses has become a challenge.  In an effort to make sure Seniors aren't sacrificing nutrition just to keep up with the cost of daily living, the Richland County Commission on Aging, the Senior Companion Program and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program decided to implement "Harvest for Seniors".

Through this program, the involved agencies will collect and deliver fresh produce during our area's harvest season and deliver them to area Seniors.  Our goal is to assist Seniors in obtaining fresh garden fruits and vegetables while helping stretch their grocery budget.

Help Make "Harvest for Seniors" a Success
All the agencies involved are very excited about "Harvest for Seniors".  To help ensure the first year is a success we are asking local gardeners to consider the program as they are planting this spring.  An extra packet of seeds will go a LONG way in helping our Seniors get the proper nutrition they need.

Once you have harvested your fruits and vegetables, simply drop your surplus off at the Community Services Building (1201 W Holly, Sidney) between the weekday hours of 8am and 4pm.  We will have a table and bins set up in the entry so that we require as little of your time as possible.  Once the fruits and vegetables are here at our building we will take care of the rest.

Volunteers from the RSVP program will divide the produce into packages for our Seniors and they will be delivered no later than the next business day.  If you would like to help with the program but do not garden, we would gladly accept help packaging and delivering.  Thanks in advance to everyone who is and will help us "Harvest for Seniors"!
