Quality of Life Strategic Plan

In 2006, the Richland County Health Department, in collaboration with the City/County Planning Board and other local agencies, created a process to assess conditions in Richland County that impact quality of life and potential for economic growth. This resulted in the development of a Community Strategic Plan (CSP) (PDF) which was reviewed and updated at the State of the Community (PDF)" county-wide conference over the past five years. To help achieve the goals and vision laid out in the CSP, the Health Department and other local government agencies and non-profits hosted AmeriCorps volunteers who helped the community form action groups around identified focus areas of: Housing, Life Long Learning, Physical Activity, Youth Opportunities, Senior Health, Health Education/Chronic Disease, Natural Resources, Recycling, Injury Prevention and Public Safety.

Currently, community leaders including elected officials and representatives from key agencies work as a steering committee that guides the process and with the changing landscape of Richland County.
